In Taranaki, the site shows 14 camping grounds available for use, with three sites – at Cape Egmont, Lake Rotokare and Waiinu Beach – free of charge. However, Waiinu Beach now had fixed charges, Mr Search for different site types from camping grounds and dump stations to Park Over Properties, NZMCA Parks and Clubs. Search Rotokare Scenic Reserve is a regionally significant natural asset and is actively ensuring the survival of species for future generations. The trust and its volunteers are successfully working on creating a pest-free sanctuary that allows rare and nationally vulnerable native species to thrive.

Mature tawa, rewarewa and mahoe dominated forest is home to tui, bellbird, keruru, grey warbler, and North Island robin, plus a variety of other bird species. There are many seats along the lake walkway to stop and enjoy the abundant bird life and native bush. The walkway makes its way through some breathtaking lowland forest before heading deep into Rotokare's swamp forest. You will see the great swamp forest giants (Kahikatea and pukatea), notice their gnarly buttress roots.
